There are a number of criteria that you can use to decide whether a site is credible or not.

• Who has written the site? Do you recognize the author or institution as having authority in that subject area?
• Who has sponsored the site?
• Is the site likely to contain any bias?
• From what you already know about the subject, is the information given accurate?
• Is it up to date?
• Does the site have references or a bibliography to back up the claims it makes?
• The web address: if a site has edu.au, .edu or .ac at the end, it is a site of an academic institution. Academic institutions are likely to be very selective about the information on their site. Anyone can set up a .com, and can put anything they want on it.
