Early Childhood Intervention NSW/ACT NDIS Research

ECIA NSW/ACT issued to 5 universities a Request for Proposal for research that builds on the ‘Early Intervention Review: Nepean Blue Mountains/Hunter Trial Sites’ research. The latest research has been made possible through funds provided by ADHC in June 2016. The applications closed in late September 2016 with proposals being received from 3 universities, each of whom took part in a second stage interview soon after. The Social Policy Research Centre (UNSW) was awarded the contract. The independent research will be undertaken over a 20 month period and will focus on:

  • How families of children are managing with the roll out of the NDIS and what (if any) issues need to be addressed for full scheme roll out.
  • How services are successfully transitioning to the NDIS (to assist other providers and to enable any issues for full scheme roll out to be addressed).

This information will form the basis of a series of reports to ECIA NSW/ACT members, the ECI sector, the NDIA and ADHC, so that we can better inform the sector on the changes and understand the impact of these changes on children, families and services. A copy of the Project Plan for this research is available at this link.

We have held the first meetings of the Implementation of the NDIS in the ECI Sector Research Reference Group, and are looking forward to the Social Policy Research Centre (University of NSW) issuing surveys to families and service providers in March/April 2017.
